1. What are Listening Groups, and how do they fit in with our current search for a new Senior Pastor?
Great question! This spring, each Elder is hosting Listening Groups with members and active attenders by visiting existing Bible studies, men’s groups, fellowship groups, and other groups. The purpose of the discussion is to gather ideas and feedback about who NSF is, our strengths and needs. All the information will be given to the whole Session to use as it continues to write out NSF’s short- and long-term vision and overall mission.
The new Senior Pastor Search Committee, which will be elected by the congregation this spring, will use this information to help direct its search. Ultimately, the gathered info will be given to the final Senior Pastor candidate(s) to help him and his family get a window into our DNA and culture.
You’re Invited! Members and active attenders, if you haven’t attended a Listening Group yet, we have four open-invitation discussions for you to choose from:
Wednesday, February 25 in 109 Frazier:
7:00 a.m. or 4:00 p.m.
Â
Sunday, March 15 in 105 Frazier:
9:45 a.m. or 12:15 p.m.

2. What are Shepherding Groups, and how can I expect to be involved?
Â
The NSF Session recognizes that we may have a small sanctuary, but we have a large congregation. Thus, it seeks to make sure every church member is covered not only by a pastor and active participation in a fellowship group, men’s discipleship group, or women’s study, but also by a member of the Session. We began this project in 2025.
Â
Every family and individual who is a member of NSF has been assigned an Elder who will reach out to you and your family a few times a year, for starters. Of course, many of our members know several officers, but this will help ensure that our congregation has that connection for needs or concerns.
Â
3. What is the new Deacon Care Team?
Â
The Deacon Care Team is a group of women who serve alongside Deacons in their mercy ministry work: tending to people’s physical needs, such as providing food, shelter, medicine, job training, or disaster relief. These women are elected by the Diaconate and approved by the Session. The Deacons recognize that the body of Christ flourishes when every member is cared for. Stay tuned to meet these women!
